Simpak all at Sea
Stena Line have installed a Simpak 1500 waste compactor from
Randalls on board the M.V. Stena Europe car/freight ferry operating between
Fishguard and Rosslare in the Irish Republic. The M.V. Stena Europe took over
the Fishguard to Rosslare route following a £4 million refurbishment at The
City Shipyard in Gothenburg.
Randalls engineers co-operated with Stena Line to design a
compaction system appropriate to conditions on board the ship and at the
discharge port. This required containers with a maximum weight length of three
and a half metres and a maximum weight of 5 tonnes. The two specially designed
containers are alternated on board and changed two or three times a week
depending on how busy the service is. The waste compactor is used to dispose of
the ship's domestic and galley waste
The Simpak 1500 is one of a comprehensive range of
Randalls compactors and is specifically designed for use in restricted spaces.

Skip Units Quality - now ISO9001:2000
Skip Units received approval to the new ISO 9000:2000 quality standard on the
31st October 2003. During the process of upgrading to the new standard the
company upgraded their systems from ISO9002 (Manufacture) to ISO9001 (Design
& Manufacture).
Alister Muirhead the managing director of the Ramshorn Group said:-
"The decision to seek
approval to the highest of the ISO standards was taken as it more correctly
reflects the company's position with respect to its customers. We felt that the
trust they placed in us to provide them with novel solutions to waste
transportation and disposal problems should be reflected in the the standards
which we apply within the company.
The new
ISO900:2000 standard is not just simply an updating of the old standard, it is
totally new and emphasizes requirements for continuous improvement, not only in
manufacturing but throughout the business structure.
The staff at Skip
Units worked extremely hard to ensure the re-approval procedure was completed
smoothly and successfully and it is to them that all credit should be
given."
